About Us

Herbert Klein was an architect who served in World War Two. The day he came home from the war, he found out his father had passed away leaving behind three construction sites in Bel Air. Quickly Herbert used his architectural knowledge and resources to finish the three homes. He was fortunate to sell them all to Howard Hughes whom bought them to house his aspiring Hollywood starlets and thus the passion for contracting began. C&J Development Company became established in in 1969 when Herbert and his son, Cary, came together to build twenty-five apartment buildings in Downtown LA in nine months. Since then, C&J have built restaurants, apartments, and houses all across Los Angeles. After Herbert retired, Cary took over the business and spent twelve years in Palm Springs building houses. In 1994 when the Northridge Earthquake hit Los Angeles, Cary moved back to LA and began to specialize in drywall, stucco, and painting.
